Life is in the Everyday Moments

So often we focus on and look towards the “big” moments: the presentation, the promotion, the gathering, the goal, the destination.... But how much of our lives do those moments really represent?

I mean, let’s think about it. How many moments do we have in a day? Let’s just say a “moment” is 5 seconds. There are 86,400 seconds in a day, leaving us with 17,280 daily “moments”. Which translates into roughly 120, 960 moments in a week; 518, 400 moments in a month; 6,307,200 moments in a year.

Those moments are overwhelmingly made up of seemingly unremarkable activities, processes and experiences. And yet....

And yet, it’s remarkable that we – both as a species and as an individual – are here. The simple truth is that it’s a miracle and a gift that you and I are here today, alive, in this moment.

It’s remarkable that many of us can simply stand when we want to and sit when we want to. For many of us, shelter, food, hot water, physical safety, family and friends are givens and yet....

What would happen if we started to see these moments as the gifts that they are? How would it change our perspectives and the ways in which we interact with one another? How would we feel if we could begin to realize the preciousness of and to find the gratitude for these truly remarkable moments?
